Playa Costa Verde is roughly a 1 hr drive from Holguin's airport. It is also about a 15 minute drive to the nearest town of Guadalavaca The resort offers a "train" which departs each morning at a cost of 5 cuban convertible pesos each to take you to town for some sightseeing.
The hotel grounds are just about the right size, and is situated on it’s own beach where you can participate in many water sports which are included in the cost of your stay. Or you can just lie on a sun lounger under the shade of the many palm trees cocktail in hand. There are 4 a la carte restaurants. The Japanese offers ‘show cooking’ where the chef’s cook at your table and entertain you, the food is amazing. Unfortunately the Italian and Cuban restaurant which is an outdoor restaurant has wonderful atmosphere, but food was severely lacking for my tastes. Finally, they have opened a new a la carte - Caribbean which offers sea food. If you're not into a la cartes, don't worry, because the buffet is great. Each night they were carving a fresh cooked ‘something’. But like most ‘all inclusive’ buffet’s can get a bit repetitive after two weeks.
There is also a 24-hour snack bar which offers pizza, burgers, salads and hotdogs. And a little way up from there is an ice cream parlour.
The rooms at this resort are spacious and extremely clean, and housed in bungalow style buildings. As someone who has a fear of anything resembling a creepy crawly, I was happy to find that the resort routinely has someone drive around it and spray it.
Each room offers a terrace/balcony with coffee machine in the room. There is also a mini fridge in the room and water is delivered daily to your room. The safe is free.
The resort has a very well laid out pool with a swim-up bar that serves from 10am each day.
A new addition is the Cigar Lounge – you can spend evening there enjoying piano music. They also have a purpose built outdoor theatre where they put on a different themed shows each night. Also if you’re an avid reader, and didn’t take enough books for your stay, then there is a small library where people put their books when finished for others to borrow.
I’ve been to a few Caribbean resorts in the last few years, but this one was by far the friendliest, fun and relaxing one I’ve visited so far. It’s also an all inclusive hotel which truly is – I couldn’t spend any money during my stay!
