So you've come to the Cayman Islands for the best in diving. Why not splurge on spending a few nights at one of the country's top resorts. And if you're like me, a total hotel snob, even you'll be impressed by these babies. Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman Most folks know that you can't go wrong with the sophistication of the Ritz Carlton brand. Their Cayman Islands resort is 365 rooms with either a resort or oceanfront view offering a balcony or terrace for an even grander one along Seven Mile Beach. My friends at Apple Vacations rate this magnificent resort as a 6-Golden Apple, because of their service; the seven restaurants serving everything from fish to Caribbean dishes; and its Health Club and Spa. Add in their fishing, SCUBA adventures, snorkeling, waterskiing, windsurfing, tennis, and golfing--and you know why.
Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa Ok, they had me at spa--but the Westin is also a good name for those looking for more upscale accommodations on Grand Cayman. They offer two pools, a swim up bar, golf, tennis, waterskiing, SCUBA diving, jet-skiing, and windsurfing. Even though they only have three restaurants at this 340-room hotel, one is formal dining for anyone willing to get out of their leisurely casual clothing. Otherwise, enjoy the cafe or Caribbean eatery. Reef Resort Grand Cayman This isn't your average run-of-the-mill hotel. It's more intimate, and rooms are either 1 or 2-bedrooms suites with a kitchenette. They've got diving packages, snorkeling, tennis, bike rentals to get around the island, and all sorts of nightlife and entertainment. Forget, any place that has its very own Dunkin Donuts for coffee would've made my list of Cayman Island Top Resorts--even if it was a shack with no electricity.
Little Cayman Beach Resort Only a half-mile from the airport, this 40-room hotel brings you very close to the natural side of the Caymans. Treat yourself to a body wrap or facial at its Nature Spa, lounge around in a hammock, or do something really exciting like snorkeling, tennis, windsurfing, or diving. There's no way you wouldn't love either its poolview or oceanfront rooms. Can't you hear the waves from your patio or balcony? A great place to start your day with a cup of coffee. Too bad it ain't a Dunkin Donuts one, but I ain't splittin' hairs. Little Cayman Beach Resort is still splendid enough to make the top resorts list without it.
Brac Reef Beach Resort With only 27-rooms (with a patio or balcony), the Brac Reef Resort offers a chance for more individualized service. They'll arrange island tours, rock climbing, fishing, and bird watching activities for you. Or just kayak or spend a day at the spa on your own. They have their own dive operation on site, making your SCUBA experience even more convenient. After a day or two doing all that--relax at the Brac Reef Beach Resort's pub, or dress up for some fine dining. Really hungry? The buffet at this all-inclusive resort is quite the spread. Wow, you could gain 5-pounds just looking at all the food. As if there isn't enough to do, the Brac Reef Beach Resort offers free WiFi. What the hell are you doing checking your email anyway--don't you know that you've got some tennis to play? Put the laptop down--and learn to relax, will ya? Hopefully you're lucky enough to spend your vacation at one of the best of the Cayman Islands top resorts. And if I missed one--I hope you tell me. Us hotel snobs gotta stick together.
