What an amazing bit of luck, I didn't think you would likely spot a Great White shark off the coast of Florida Key Largo of all places. I have seen a big shark on a pathetic little booze cruise and estimated it was a Nurse shark from memory - but that is nothing compared to this mother of a fish. Posted in 2013 it goes to show that even amazing encounters can escape you. The video could use some time elapsed since start play links being placed as the video is quite long.

The Pigeon Island National Park is located on the most northwesterly part of the island of St Lucia. In the 44 acres of beautiful tropical surroundings, expect relaxation, enjoyment and a healthy dose of history.

Pigeon Island, despite its name, is actually no longer an island! It is joined to mainland St Lucia by a man-made causeway that now houses Sandals Grande Hotel. Though it may be a place of tranquillity now, it wasn’t always this way.

Before Europe first made contact with the Caribbean islands, they were inhabited by two groups of Amerindians, the Caribs and the Arawaks. The Caribs were known to be more war-like and the Arawaks more peaceful. The Caribs inhabited Pigeon Island until the arrival of Norman Captain ‘Jambe de Bois’ (Wooden Leg) and his band of pirates.

The French took over in the 18th Century. When the French declared war on the British in 1778, the British decided to attack St Lucia, France's stronghold, and managed to seize control. Since then, St Lucia was fought over tooth and nail by these two nations, changing ownership no less than 14 times! The British were the final victors and remained in control of the country until Independence in 1979. This continual fight is reflected in that St Lucia’s official language is English, but that most of the country also speaks a French Kweyol and many of the place names in St Lucia are French.

Castries is the capital of St Lucia, located in the northwest of the island and home to approximately 11,000 people. It has excellent transport links, with air, land and sea access. Those who come to St Lucia via other Caribbean islands will have a birds eye view of Castries as they descend into the George F. L. Charles airport. International flights land at Vieux Fort, and the main East-coast road leads directly from there to Castries, with no shortage of public or private-hire minivans to make the scenic one and a half hour trip.

Castries also boasts a deep harbour, which allows the city to play host to international quality cruiseships. Some of the major liners stopping at Castries include Aida and Celebrity X cruises, and it is not uncommon to see three cruiseliners in the harbour at any one time.

If your ship docks on the city-side of the harbour, the first place you will meet when you step off the ship is La Place Carenage, a duty free mall selling fine jewelry, Rolex watches, tobacco, alcohol and more tax free products. Upstairs it has two restaurants that overlook the harbour. Try Pirates for an open air dining veranda, an array of exotic cocktails and a mix of classic Caribbean cuisine amongst some familiar favourites.

Other ships dock at the far side of the harbour, near a white pyramid building and fishing boat moorings. Though La Place Carenage is only a ten minute walk from here, you may prefer to try Pointe Seraphine, another duty-free shopping haven. When you've had your fill of shopping, take a short walk past the sports complex and discover Vigie Beach, a welcoming stretch of white sand lapped by the gentle waves of the Caribbean Sea.

Another popular option is to head down to the food market, where local farmers sell their produce through a network of friendly lady stallholders. If you strike up conversation, you will also find that some of the stallholders grow their own produce in their gardens. If you are staying in self-catering accommodation, you can pick up tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, spinach, pumpkin, chives, cabbage and bananas, to name but a few. Why not try some tropical fruit and vegetables? Depending on the season you might find golden apples, sugar apples or love apples (none of which are much like regular apples!), an abundance of mangoes, or creamy avocados. If you're feeling adventurous try a breadfruit, a large green food shaped a little like a football that has a beige centre. Boiled, chopped and deep fried, it makes an excellent alternative to french fries or potato wedges. Fried plantain is another delicious choice.

Marigot Bay is one of the most popular tourist destinations in St Lucia, and you don't have to look too far to find the reasons why.

Marigot Bay is not a centre of busy activity and glittering nightlife like Rodney Bay. It is a tranquil and relaxing place that you can enjoy as the perfect place to stay and unwind, or as a base to come home to after a busy day exploring the many attractions St Lucia has to offer. Marigot Bay is a serene, small community based around a natural harbour. You will find stalls selling jewelry, St Lucian hand carved ornaments and all other kinds of attractive souvenirs. A full spectrum of boats, from tiny fishing boats to large yachts, call in here, and there is a friendly sense of community and hospitality that reaches everyone, St Lucians and tourists alike.

There are many options for accommodation, Marigot Bay having an excellent assortment of hotels, bed and breakfast establishments, and self-catering villas. Choosing where you want to stay may be difficult, as all of these options are of an excellent standard and have received outstanding feedback on TripAdvisor. A major factor in this decision will be whether you would like to cook for yourself at times, or would prefer to eat out during your stay. If you prefer to eat in, the supermarket in Marigot Bay has a very good variety but is more exclusively priced than other local supermarkets. Other accommodations may include whether you require Air Conditioning, a swimming pool, a spa, water sports or other facilities. It is advised to get accommodation with a good balcony or veranda to make the most of the idyllic view over the Caribbean sea.

Marigot Bay is about an hour and a quarter from the main airport in Vieux Fort (UVF). Before you arrive you can consider whether you would prefer to hire a car for the duration of your stay or rely on taxis. If you plan to use Marigot as a base to tour around the island, a hire car would definitely be advisable as taxis around the island can be expensive. A 4-wheel drive car is recommended, particularly for the road between Marigot and Soufriere. If you prefer to stay within Marigot Bay for your holiday, it might be better value for money to arrange for a taxi from the airport to your accommodation. As the taxis are usually minibuses, you could join up with another couple or group going to Marigot Bay and split the fare. If you do choose this option and are staying in self-catering accommodation, you might want to ask the taxi driver to stop at a supermarket to stock up on essentials at a cheaper price than you would be able to within Marigot Bay. The major supermarket chain in St Lucia is called Super J, and you can often find a pharmaceutical section and an ATM at their stores.

Another option for getting around the island is using the local minibuses. They are very cheap at about 1 USD a journey, though you must have local currency (Eastern Caribbean Dollars - XCD) to ride. They are generally not suited to luggage as they can be quite packed. These buses pass along the main road, which is about a ten minute walk from Marigot Bay.

In St Lucia, Soufriere is well known as a must-visit tourist destination, but still manages to feel authentically Lucian. This small town is surrounded by rainforest trails, towering hills covered in lush vegetation, and Petit and Gros Piton, two huge hills jutting out of the Caribbean sea, that are a UNESCO heritage site and the namesake of St Lucia's local beer brand.

The atmosphere of Soufriere is a world away from the urban bustle of Castries and the sheen of Rodney Bay. A casual friendliness enhances the relaxed atmosphere.

And there is nowhere more relaxing to visit than the Diamond Falls Estate. On the site of a former plantation, it now holds sulphur rivers, extensive botanical gardens, a restaurant, and of course, the falls that give this outstanding place of natural beauty its name.

The sulphur springs are caused by volcanic activity tens of thousands of years ago that have caused the water to have high sulphur content and be naturally warm. The waters are said to have therapeutic powers, being helpful in easing rheumatism, respiratory problems and especially stress. King Louis XVI took advantage of this and erected twelve stone baths in the 1700s. These were later destroyed and remained in ruins until restored by Andre du Boulay in the 1930s.

There are now two indoor baths for private use. Each bath can hold two people and would be suitable for a family with young children to share. There are also a series of outdoor pools for communal use - remember to pack a bathing suit and towel! The slots to enjoy the baths are generally around half an hour, but if you arrive early (the Estate opens at 10am every day) you may be able to avoid the rush of tourists on day tours and have a little longer to enjoy the warm healing waters. At just 7 USD for the private baths and 6 USD for the public, it won't hurt your pocket to indulge.

The British Virgin Islands has something to offer for everyone. Chartering yachts and catamarans? SCUBA? Snorkeling? Or something as simple as sprawling out across the white beaches that garnish the coast of every island.

Regardless of your intentions you are going to find the need to dine and drink. The BVI has everything from small nooks for coffee and pastries, to several Indian restaurants that are scattered around Road Town. There are beach bars and grills that serve everything from your standard Hamburger, Ribs, and pasta to Jerk style meats made famous by Jamaica, and Beer Can Chicken.

In every restaurant you will find the items that many come from far and wide for; the fresh seafood from the gulf stream. Everything from snapper to conch. Lobsters, tuna, jacks, lion fish, and crabs. Marlin, dolphin, and wahoo. Every restaurant has an extensive seafood portion to the menu, with a catch of the day, harvested fresh in the morning from the local markets.

If you go beyond the delicious, albeit expensive, tourist restaurants, you will find affordable delicious holes in the wall where you can get local chicken or goat cooked a variety of different ways. From baked to broiled, grilled to fried, and last but not least stewed with local vegetables in delectable gravies.

Drinks are plentiful around the BVI, a destination that is run with the casualness of a slow buzz. An island where alcohol is cheaper than water is sure to peak the interests of those looking to kick back. If beer is your poison know that you can get anyone available for under $4 at any location, with many being $2. If you head to the grocery store you can get 24 oz of presidente, a local Caribbean brew, for less than $2. Rum is the cheapest thing on the island. Make sure you stop at any of the local joints to try a rum punch or the infamous painkiller.

Dating back far in history, Jamaica has many genre of music and have seen many artist come and go who have made their mark, promote the growth of the music and help to build the country. Jamaican music from earlier times was mainly based on life issues and experiences and as much, it carried a lot of emotional and touchy feelings that both singers and listeners could relate to personally. Because of its content and the beat that is associated with it, persons from all over the world are easily captivated by it and become really addicted. Reggae is a renowned worldwide feature that has the ability to pull so many people from all walks of life. It is a genuinely natural heartbeat pump that somehow knows how to pull persons towards it. It also has such positive impact on everyone who has come in contact with it that a whole month here in Jamaica has being dedicated and deemed “reggae month”-February. It is also a representational and significant month too as the legend Bob Marley was born this month. Reggae is a core Jamaican music wrapped around the likes of Ska (a fast popular music originating in Jamaica around the 1960s) and Mento (a beat of folk rhythm originating from a dance style) as overtime stretched its banks and has also influenced other forms of music. A few foundation reggae artists are persons like the late Bob Marley, Bob Andy, Buju Banton, Ken Boothe, Etana, Queen Ifrica, Taurus Riley, Jimmy Riley, and Morgan’s Heritage among so many others. They have songs which based on the lyrics and contents are related naturally to everyday living and lifestyle.

This foundation music has also influenced the beats of another world renowned music Genre, Gospel. This is music which has its contents centered on Christ Jesus and many artist have linked their way of producing this music kind like that of reggae-heartfelt and lifestyle linked. Also, reggae has become so strong overtime that the birth of another popular music genre now hitting the world was developed from it. Many persons here in Jamaica and around the world have gravitated to the hit dancehall music. This is a form of reggae but not with the same root digging lyrics as it differs mainly in:

Aquasol Theme Park

A white sandy beach situated in one of the most tourists populated areas of Gloucester Avenue, Montego Bay, Jamaica. It is not located too far outside of the town. Its enticing welcome portrays the experience of a “fun in the sun” or “fun in the cool” time. The atmosphere is always fresh and certainly never a dull moment when you visit here; with the sound of the rushing waves dashing against the shore line or the trees waving its leaves and branches or the echoing sound of the world’s number one music selection, the best of the real Jamaican reggae sounds. The melody simple flows through with a sweet smelling fragrance of happiness. From a personal standpoint, relaxing on the cool stretch of a over 7-mile sandy area, getting the personal serenade from players of some of Jamaica’s oldest musical instruments has certainly made it felt like paradise.

There are more than enough activities to keep you company occupied who never planned on the cool quiet moment like you may have planned. There are activities like go-cart driving for the young and the young at heart (older folks too), areas for sporting activities like tennis, volleyball or beach football among many others. And let’s not forget the on-the-beach massage sessions by trained professionals.

However, if you wish to be up and about but still in the need to get all wet and not necessarily through simple relaxation, then trying the great fantasy pleaser Dunn’s River Falls or the Apple Valley Theme Park is among the best choices.

Dunn’s River Falls

With water gushing down a high-raised rock in a fall formation, its mere physical beauty is strong enough to captivate your whole being. With the heating temptation of wanting to climb atop is only being denied by the person themselves. You are free to go ahead and climb to whatever distance you wish knowing you are safe in all aspects of fun. Situated in the Island’s Garden Parish, St. Ann, there is never a dull moment experienced in the complete journey fulfillment and endless sensation.

The two dive sites were quite close  - but it didn’t take long for Indigo Divers new boat engine and improvements to get us there ! A speed of 28 knots.

Barracuda Reef – 55 feet this site did give us Barracuda – and black tip reef sharks that I hope to get saved and edited and uploaded here on our youtube channel. The other dive site was Salomon trail – we did again see sharks but it wasn’t as good as the first dive. I didn’t get any really good footage as I am still learning how to use the rig I have and the light is a bit underpowered. I hope to make a semi decent quick video as you may be interested in sharks. The puffer fish shot was not bad. I was very annoyed to have forgotten to add the red filter I had brought all the way from home. I think you need to dive a lot more to get good footage for moments like this. Simply put there is so much that goes wrong on the boat with your gear your head etc that volume is what can work. Conditions for example should have been a lot better with the vis but untypically rain has been around. Check the video anyway. 

A shark in Antigua

I took a good while to again get familiar with adobe after effects during the making of this short video that had almost everything in it. Sharks topped the order then it was familiar friends and some less known guys like puffer fish and spoted drums. There was some nich schooling action going on which I caught a bit of. A massive lobster that didnt make it into the video due to time of all things.

Problems I had were in keeping the go pro steady and getting enough light on the subject to allow the colours to come through. Publishing the colour correction via adobe after effects was a lot faster than using photoshop I noticed and my flow was this 

1. trim the footage in gopro studio (I think would skip this step next time !!! BIG TIP)
2. take that footage into after effects (its great to get the zoom control and I played with using some stabilization like on the Barracuda)
3. lay the after effects exports using imovie (not using adobe premiere as imovie works great for me)

So its the old two steps of working on clips that get to be part of the bigger story when you remove the first step above. I used to use adobe premiere for that last step but pushed for time imovie does well. I loose some control but thats fine for this. As I sy the footage was a little dissapointing so burning more time is not going to happen. It's cheap and chearful ll the way :)

This should not be much work - especially if you delegate it to one of your divemasters. You can upload a photo or blog about this weeks students who passed their open water exam. Or there may have been a particularly exciting sighting that you want to tell us and the community about. Its just keeping the community updated and it makes your dive shop look good.

The only remaining tribe of Carib Indians in the Caribbean reside on the reservation called Carib Territory. It is a modern community who has adapted their lifestyle somewhat but have at the same time preserved their ways.

One thing to see is the Escalier Tete Chien at Sineku a natural formation - it isn't on the normal tourism radar so thats why I would like to go and I imagine that like with many places in Dominica it can be a trek before you leave the vehicle !
